USES OF PHENERGAN (PROMETHAZINE)

Nausea

Nausea is an uneasy or unsettled feeling in the stomach together with an urge to vomit. Nausea and vomiting, or throwing up, are not diseases. They can be symptoms of many different conditions.

Vomiting

Vomiting is the expulsion of the contents of stomach through the mouth and can be voluntary or involuntary.

Treatment of Allergic conditions

An allergy is the body’s way of responding to any foreign substance. The immune system produces an exaggerated response by releasing antibodies called immunoglobulin E (IgE) to the foreign substance. The foreign substance could be harmless or could cause minimal to a serious allergic response in the body.

Motion sickness

Motion sickness is a feeling of dizziness with nausea and vomiting that occurs as a response to motion (travel). It is a common condition that makes traveling uncomfortable and unpleasant for many people.

It can occur as car sickness, train sickness, air sickness, or sea sickness. It can also occur in a motion simulator where there is no real motion.

BENEFITS OF PHENERGAN (PROMETHAZINE)

In Nausea

Phenergan (Promethazine) blocks the action of chemicals in the body that can make you feel or be sick. It is often used to prevent nausea and vomiting that may be caused due to some medicines or any other medical treatment. This medicine helps you recover more comfortably. The dose will depend on what you are being treated for but always take this medicine as it is prescribed.

In Treatment of Allergic conditions

Phenergan (Promethazine) is used to treat many different inflammatory and allergic conditions. It works by lowering your immune system’s response to these conditions and prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation. It helps relieve symptoms such as swelling, pain, itching, and other allergic-type reactions. If you are not sure why you are being given this medicine, ask your doctor.

This medicine is given orally (by mouth). You should always take it as it has been prescribed for you. Do not stop taking it without your doctor’s advice. This can cause unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Because this medicine weakens your immune system, you should avoid being near people who are ill or have infections.

In Motion sickness

Motion sickness is a condition caused due to motion during travel. You may experience spinning sensation (vertigo), nausea or vomiting as a result of this condition. Promethazine helps treat these symptoms effectively. Take it as prescribed by the doctor to get maximum benefit.

SIDE EFFECTS OF PHENERGAN (PROMETHAZINE)

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them.

Common side effects of Phenergan (Promethazine) :

  • Dryness in mouth
  • Blurred vision
  • Headache
  • Dizziness

HOW TO USE PHENERGAN (PROMETHAZINE)

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Promethazine may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

HOW PHENERGAN (PROMETHAZINE) WORKS

Promethazine is an antiallergic medication. When your body is exposed to an allergen (pollen, animal dander, house dust etc.), it produces a chemical called histamine. This causes watery eyes, runny or blocked nose, sneezing, skin rashes, itching etc. Promethazine works by blocking the action of histamine, thereby relieving these symptoms. It also works directly on several areas of the brain to prevent nausea/vomiting and help you feel more relaxed.
