Triazolam is a  central nervous system (CNS) depressant  tranquilizer of the triazolobenzodiazepine (TBZD) class, which are benzodiazepine derivatives possessing pharmacological properties similar to those of other benzodiazepines but is generally only used as a sedative to treat severe insomnia.
